More than 700 community health workers were recognised at the Warrington Community Services Unit’s Star Awards.

The Star Awards, which were held at the International Business Centre on the Gemini Retail Park last Thursday, rewarded hundreds of hard-working health and community workers in the area. Amongst the winners were dentists and members of dental staff, district nurses and podiatrists.

The Star Awards event also marked the beginning of a new phase for the Warrington Community Services Unit, which is currently managed by NHS Warrington; the trust will be phased out by 2013 and the Community Services Unit will be part of a new community trust.

The new community trust will join community services in Warrington, Leigh and Wigan, Trafford, St Helen’s and Halton together, along with dental services from across the North West.

The work of community health staff is extremely important; now, more people can be treated at home, meaning there are more beds and places available in hospitals and allowing people to stay in the comfort of their own homes. Home care services also allow people who would struggle to get to a clinic or hospital to receive the care they need without worrying about transport or problems with mobility.
