Dental school gets $700k grant

The School of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Rochester has been given a $700,000 grant.
The uni (UR) was awarded the grant by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) to fund the translation of research discoveries into treatments.
The funding is part of the HHMI’s Med Into Grad Initiative, which aims to encourage educational establishments to teach both medical knowledge and good clinical practices in PHD programs.
Elizabeth McAnarney, acting dean at UR’s of the School of Medicine and Dentistry, said that the program would give students a thorough education in research and offer essential insights into clinical issues.
The program also aims to improve patient care by inspiring students to make discoveries which could potentially improve treatments of various diseases.
 
In the long-term, the funding is expected to increase the number of publications produced by graduates and help them financially also.
Twenty-three other educational establishments around America have received similar funding.
