New figures have revealed a dramatic rise in dental registrations in Moray.

Statistics released by the NHS show that more than 42,000 adults have joined registers since 2007. The number of children registered with a dentist has also increased by 68.7% in the last 12 years.

In 2007, just 14,754 adults and 10,051 children in Moray were registered with a dentist. Now, these figures have soared, with 56,828 adults and 16,964 children on a dental list.

The news has been welcomed by the SNP, with MSP for Moray, Richard Lochhead, stating that “huge strides” had been made to improve the oral health of local residents and the country as a whole. The increase in registration rates is a trend reflected across Scotland, with many more adults and children now benefiting from regular NHS dental appointments.

In just 12 years, more than 42,000 adults have joined NHS clinic registers in Moray, and this will undoubtedly have a positive impact on the oral health of the community moving forward. People are more aware of the services available to them, and access to dental treatment has improved. The most recent figures are a sign that things are moving in the right direction, and ministers are hoping to continue working with NHS professionals to ensure that even more adults and children benefit from dental care in the future.
