A dental practice manager from Belfast has put a smile on the faces of people at a local charity, after raising money by completing a marathon.

Valerie Maguire, from Dromore Dental raised £650 for the Hope for Life charity, after completing the Belfast Marathon. In her first marathon, Valerie crossed the finish line in a very impressive time of four hours, 22 minutes.

Valerie, who is married to dentist, Gavin Maguire, chose to support Epilepsy Action NI, which is run by charity Hope for Life, to raise money for families affected by epilepsy. The charity was set up by a couple from Hillsborough in memory of their daughter Caroline, who died on Christmas day in 2009.

This is not the first time staff from Dromore Dental have taken on challenges to raise money for good causes and Valerie has already run a 10 kilometre fun run in aid of Skeagh House in Dromore and the team are always looking for opportunities to help local people.

This is Valerie’s first marathon, but she is a keen runner and is often seen out for a jog. She is now taking a well-deserved break but her friends and colleagues say they will not be surprised to see her lining up for charity runs in the future.
