A dental nurse from Waltham Abbey is taking on a series of charity runs to raise money for her autistic son.

Mia Bradley is tackling the challenges to raise money for 22-year-old son, Robin, who has severe autism and needs 24 hour care. Mia will be joined by her other son, Charlie, who is 20.

Charlie is preparing to take on the 10 kilometre Lee valley run on Sunday 20th May, while Mia will be joining the Autism Anglia group of runners at the 10km London run on July 8th. The proceeds will be donated to Autism Anglia and Ducecroft School, the school, which Robin attended up to the age of 19, to help him and other children in a similar situation.

Mia currently works as a dental nurse at the Dental Smile Clinic in Broxbourne High Street. She is also joining forces with other parents and carers to raise money for Robin and other children who have severe autism and require specialist care. Robin is at the severe end of the autistic spectrum and he needs 24 hour care in a specialist home, as he is unable to go out alone because he has no concept of risk and danger.

Mia said that fundraising was important because the children require constant care and for them it is like living in another world where nobody quite understands them. She said that Robin found it very difficult to build relationships, because he struggled to understand and interact with people and was easily confused by the situations and environments he was confronted with.

Charlie, who works at Neo Brothers in Waltham Cross, said that it was important to give something back to the school, as many people have donated money which will have been used to help Robin in the past.
