A dental nurse from Stowmarket has set off on a 12,000 kilometre cycle ride in aid of charity.

Leanne Pemberton and her partner, Paul Snuggs, a carpenter, left home on the 3rd August and will now cycle through Europe to reach Sri Lanka. The trip is around 7,500 miles and will take several weeks. Once the couple reaches Greece, they will take a week’s rest and then get the ferry to Turkey for the second leg of the challenge.

The pair is raising money for the charity, Kickstart, which provides support, care and education for children in Sri Lanka through the medium of sport. Once the couple reaches their destination, they will stay in Sri Lanka for six months to help out with the charity projects and teach English and sport.

The cycle route will take Leanne and Paul through 17 different countries and the pair plans to ride from 6am until 5pm every night.

The couple has already raised in excess of £1,000 for the charity.

Leanne said she was very excited about the trip, but also slightly apprehensive, as the cycling will be tough and the couple will be away from friends and loved ones for a long period of time. Leanne cycles on a regular basis, but this will be the longest and most challenging ride she has done by a long way. The couple has spent months training and both are really looking forward to travelling, seeing different countries and enjoying the experience.

Leanne will be keeping a blog while they are away and friends, colleagues and family will be keeping up to date with their progress.
