Dental Nurse Accused of Fraud

Sample News Big

The General Dental Council (GDC) Professional Conduct Committee has recently heard allegations of fraud against a dental nurse from London.

Linda Alyson Fernandes has been convicted of 6 counts of fraud, dating back from as early as August 2012. The dental nurse had access to a spare set of keys for the Aqua Dental Spa, based in London. She entered the practice without permission and transferred money from the practices credit card machine into her own, personal account.

The GDC have heard that Linda fraudulently obtained around £3,300, which was taken during ‘out of hours’ with keys that weren’t supposed to be in her possession.

The committee then went on to discuss the importance of dental professionals being 100% trustworthy in order to maintain public confidence and reassurance in the field. Ms Fernandes dishonesty was premeditated, as she had designed a way for the cash to be transferred almost undetectable. What’s more, her sophisticated methods occurred over a long period of time, which provides evidence that the act was deliberate.

More details are available through the GDC website, which also states that Ms Fernandes has 28 days in order to appeal her case. If she fails to do so Ms Fernandes will be struck off the dental register.
