Dental Injection Pain soon to be a thing of the Past

Sample News Big

Another step has been taken towards pain-free dentistry.

Dr John Meechan and researchers Phil Harley and Chris Lawrence from Newcastle University have created an injection, which counteracts the acidity of injection fluid. Injections are acidic so they can be safely stored, but it is this elevated ph level that causes injection pain, rather than the actual needle.

Dr. Meechan’s device uses a neutralising agent, which is added before the injection is given via a valve. Although still in the prototype phase the device has won the Best Overall Winner in the Dental and Oral Health category of the Medical Futures Innovation Awards.

The award is a great step towards helping the University towards the £150,000 they need to develop the cartridge and allow it to be put on the market in the next two years.
