Dental implants have ‘redefined’ dentistry

The advancement of dental implants has redefined the field of dentistry, it has been claimed.

Reported by the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette, the newly elected president of the Indiana Dental Association Mark Stetzel explained that dental implants use artificial roots as a foundation for fake teeth.

However, unlike dentures, dental implants are permanent and therefore allow people to chew better.

"We used to have pretty standard treatment plans for dental defects … or dental problems," he said. "With dental implants, you can almost rebuild anybody’s mouth."

He added that the treatment is not cheap and can take several operations and cost between $40,000 (£20,188) and $50,000.

Mr Stetzel added that bleaching has become extremely popular in the cosmetic dentistry industry as advancements have made it safe and cost-effective.

According to research by American Express Insurance Services, 26 per cent of Brits are too busy to arrange an appointment with their general or cosmetic dentist.ADNFCR-1374-ID-18613021-ADNFCR
