Dentaid has confirmed the launch of a second mobile unit.

The UK-based charity revealed the news at the BDIA Dental Showcase and will run the second clinic in association with Bupa Dental Care.

The new vehicle will build on the successes of the first unit, touring homeless shelters and facilities, soup kitchens and day centres. The aim will be to target patients who find it difficult to access dental services. In addition to providing routine and general dental care, the unit will also offer emergency dentistry and oral health advice. Screening checks will also be available.

Dentaid CEO, Andy Evans, said that it was a hugely exciting time for the charity, and everyone involved is thrilled to be launching the second mobile clinic. Up to 70% of homeless people have experienced dental issues in the past, and the van helps to bridge gaps that can leave certain groups without easy access to dental services. The units are staffed by volunteers and their hard work and dedication is making a real difference. The charity already hosts regular clinics in Leeds, Hampshire, Wiltshire, York and Winchester, and there are plans to extend its reach in the coming months and years.

Bupa chose Dentaid as its official charity partner, and has already proven instrumental in generating funds for and raising awareness of new initiatives and programmes. The company, which is growing all the time, has also supplied funding to enable Dentaid to hire an apprentice administrator.

Gabriela Pueyo, general manager of Bupa Dental Care, said that it was a very interesting time for Bupa Dental, and added that the entire network of staff is looking forward to supporting Dentaid and the incredible work it does across the UK and beyond.
