Leading dental insurance firm, Denplan, has donated thousands of pounds to a children’s charity.

Employees at the Winchester-based firm handed over a cheque to the NSPCC for £3,200 at a ceremony on January 20th. The company was raising money for the NSPCC’s SMILES centre in Southampton. The centre helps to provide advice, emotional support and care for children whose parents are affected by mental health disorders. SMILES stands for Simplifying Mental Illness plus Life Enhancement Skills and is designed to support children aged between 8 and 14 years old.

Community fundraising manager for Hampshire, Gemma Graves, thanked Denplan for their generous donation and explained that the money will be used to support children in the local area and their families. Fundraising enables the practitioners working at the centre to reach out to more families and ensure that those in need receive the support they require.

As well as being utilised to support children, the money will also help to fund one to one sessions with parents and provide them with advice and help to draw up a plan to help children in the even that they become ill or their metal health suffers a sudden decline.

Denplan’s head of human resources and chair of the community fund, Sharon Ellis, said that it is a great pleasure to be able to support local initiatives and to aid projects like SMILES, which bring so much to so many people.
