Cumbria Dental Nurses Angry Over Dumped Waste

Dental nurses from a practice in Cumbria are calling for people to stop dumping waste on land adjacent to the surgery; the nurses have been cleaning the land next to the Horn Hill Dental Practice on a regular basis and are fed up of removing bags of rubbish and dog excrement, which has been dumped or thrown over the fence.

Practice manager, Helen Robinson, said that the nurses have been working on a rota to tidy the area for the last 8 months; however, they have reached the end of their tether, as they removed a total of 15 bags of dog waste and 9 bin bags full of rubbish last week; she suggested that people are simply chucking their rubbish over the fence and said that it is not fair to expect the practice staff to clean up other people’s mess on an ongoing basis. Helen suggested that it may just be one person disposing of all their rubbish on the site, as all the bags are the same colour.

The local council, Copeland Borough Council, has put up signs encouraging dog walkers to tidy up their dog’s excrement and will now install a dog waste bin in the area, but Helen said that the practice is considering installing CCTV to prevent dumping.

The land is fenced off from the public and is enclosed due to the possibility of problems with subsidence in the future, but this has not deterred people, or one person, from throwing their rubbish over the fence. Helen said that she is eager to spread the message that this behaviour is not acceptable and will not be tolerated.
