CQC Registration Causes Problems for Dental Practices

Sample News Big

More than 30 dental practices have not secured CQC (Care Quality Commission) registration, it has been revealed.

Figures shared with General Practice publication, Pulse, confirm that more than 30 dental practices and an unknown number of GP practices have not completed CQC registration, adding fuel to the argument that the registration process is forcing some surgeries to close.

It has also been revealed that switching to online registration has increased the total cost of the process by more than £5 million.

The CQC has denied allegations of closing down dental practices, as a result of the convoluted registration process but the regulator has confirmed that 36 dental practices have not successfully completed registration and in addition, 68 dentists have been classified as “potentially unregistered.”

In addition to dental practices, it is also feared that some GP practices have closed. However, the number has not been revealed because of a technical error, according to the CQC.

Dr Jack Edmonds, from the Independent Doctors Federation, said that the failure to disclose the number of GP practices failing to register is symptomatic of bigger issues with the registration process and the relationship between doctors and the CQC.
