Councillors worry after town left without dental services

Councillors and county representatives have raised concerns after residents of the Welsh town, Newcastle Emyln were left without any dental services.

An interim service was being managed by a practice in Cardigan; however, this has been stopped due to problems with recruitment; as a consequence, the town of Newcastle Emlyn has been left without any dental provision.

Jonathan Edwards, an MP for the area, has condemned the situation, describing it as “simply unacceptable”. Mr Edwards said the lack of NHS provision in the area was letting people down and local people were going without an essential service.

Rhodri Glyn Thomas, a local representative, has also criticised the situation and said he felt extremely disappointed that the interim service had ceased to provide care for local residents. He said he will now be taking the matter up with the Health Minister at the Assembly and will try to find alternative dental care for local people as quickly as possible. Mr Thomas has also written to the Local Health Board, asking for a solution to be found as soon as possible.
