Liverpool City Council has given plans to develop a brand new multi-million pound health centre the green light.

The 5 million pound development will house GP surgeries and offer dental services, pharmaceutical services and specialist ante-natal and baby clinics. The new clinic will open on Edge Lane in Kensington and the surgeries currently operating from Edge Hill Medical Centre and temporary cabins at the old reservoir sites will move into the new centre.

The brand new centre will offer a range of important primary care services, including dental services; the new health centre will improve access to primary care services and more people will be able to visit an NHS dentist on their doorstep.

The centre is being developed by Liverpool-based firm, LSHP Ltd and building is due to commence in January 2012; it is hoped that the centre will open its doors to the public at the beginning of 2013.

The Kensington centre will be the 10th new primary care facility to be developed by LSHP as part of Liverpool Primary Care Trust’s Out of Hospital programme, which aims to provide a range of first class services in modern, spacious facilities.

New facilities have already opened in Everton, Picton, Walton, Fazakerley, Speke and Dovecot and a mini hospital has recently opened in Garston. A new health centre is due to open in Childwall this autumn.
