Could A Baby’s Dummy Be The Solution For Snorers?

Sample News Big

A new anti-snoring device which resembles a baby’s dummy, claims to provide a solution for snorers. The device, which retails at £70, is the same size as a dummy and could be the answer for Britain’s 3 million snorers.

The dummy-like device works by pulling the individual’s tongue forward during sleep, this ensures that the airways are open. Before the individual goes to sleep, they place the tip of their tongue onto a suction pad on the dummy, which sits inside the mouth.

The dummy contains a hollow bulb in the centre so when the patient breathes, the bulb is squeezed and air escapes, creating a vacuum. When the individual lets go, the tongue is sealed inside the bulb and this keeps the airways open.

In addition to helping snorers, the device could also be beneficial for those who have obstructive sleep apnoea, a condition that can be potentially life-threatening.

The device is called the Good Morning Snore Solution; a trial carried out by Canadian researchers revealed that more than a third of the 32 volunteers woke fewer times during the night when wearing the device and the amount they snored also fell. The results of the study have been published in the Journal of Sleep and Breathing.

Dr Adrian Williams, from the London Sleep Centre, said that further studies were required and added that similar devices are “not tolerated very well by patients.”
