Concern From Healthwatch Bradford as Only Two Dental Practices in Ilkley and Otley Take on NHS Patients

Healthwatch Bradford has raised concerns over access to NHS dental services after research revealed that only two dental practices in Ilkley and Otley are accepting new NHS dental patients.

The watchdog also expressed reservations about access in other parts of the district. Representatives have been gathering information and asking patients in the local area to get in touch as part of a consultation on local dental services that has been running since the beginning of the year.

Research has shown that Manor Square Dental in Otley and Ilkley Dental Centre are currently the only clinics offering new NHS patient places in the Yorkshire towns.

The findings of Healthwatch Bradford’s consultations are due to be passed on to NHS England in the near future. It is hoped they will identify areas of need and authorities can then work on improving access in the future.

Communications director Victoria Simmons said that Healthwatch Bradford is committed to working with other local and national bodies to try and improve dental services in the region and ensure that patient concerns are addressed.
