Colleagues, friends and family have paid tribute to a dental nurse who has sadly passed away in Swansea after contracting COVID-19.

Linette Cruz, 51, tragically died on 14th April after receiving treatment at Morriston Hospital. Ms Cruz was head dental nurse at Brynteg Dental Practice in Sketty, near Swansea. She is survived by her husband, Jeonardy, her son, Jeonard, her sister, Rose and her parents.

Nik Patel, practice owner, described Linette as a person who “brought love, light and joy to everyone around her” and added that everyone at the practice will miss her terribly.

Linette moved to Wales after training in the Philippines and made an instant impact after joining the Brynteg practice. Initially working as an extended duty nurse, she was promoted to head dental nurse and took great pride and joy in her job. She was hugely popular with patients and staff and everyone in the community is shocked and saddened by her passing.

Dental director for Swansea Bay University Health Board, Karl Bishop, described Linette’s death as “deeply upsetting” and paid tribute to a “highly committed and caring dental nurse.” The board will be providing support for colleagues and staff in the weeks to come.

Linette was admitted to Morriston Hospital in March and received treatment in the intensive care unit. A funding page has been set up in her memory. Donations will be used to pay for a funeral and support Linette’s family.
