Cockermouth dentist reveals plans for expansion

A dentist from Cockermouth, Cumbria, has revealed plans to expand. Paul Rowlands has confirmed that his practice, Derwent Dental Care, will be relocating to large premises in the coming months.

Mr Rowlands initially purchased land just off Wakefield Road last year and planned to open a new building; however, the process of applying to Allerdale Council and waiting for a response was lengthy, and he has since sold the plot of land. He now plans to move the practice to Derwent House, which is located on the other side of Wakefield Road, which will give the team more space. The estimated cost of the build is around £750,000 and will involve converting the second floor. Derwent House Orthodontics will occupy the first floor, and lift access will be available.

Mr Rowlands has applied to the council for permission to change the use of the second floor from offices to treatment rooms, and he has plans to create four surgeries, a spacious waiting area and reception suite and a separate consulting room. There is scope to add a fifth surgery in the future if plans are approved. If the application is given the green light, Mr Rowlands hopes to have builders on-site by June.
