Chiswick Dentist Planning Return Trip To Sierra Leone

Sample News Big

A dentist from Chiswick is planning a return trip to Sierra Leone to provide much-needed dental care for some of the world’s poorest people.

Raffaella Gabassi is preparing to jet off on the 27th September and is appealing for donations, including any unwanted toys and games, clothing and toothbrushes. The dentist, who is based at White Dental and Cosmetic Rooms on Chiswick High Road, has asked for anyone who wants to donate to call by the office.

After visiting Sierra Leone in the past, Raffaella set up a new charity called The Smiling World Foundation and anyone who wants to find out more can visit the website.

Standards of oral health are very poor in Sierra Leone and people lack even the most basic dental care; in contrast to the UK, where there is one dentist to 2,400 people, in Sierra Leone there is just 1 dentist to every 1.1 million people, meaning that there are just five trained dentists for 5.7 million people.

During her upcoming trip to Sierra Leone, Raffaella is planning to visit orphanages, community centres and schools to provide basic dental care and give out toothbrushes and toothpaste. Last year, she treated more than 1,500 people during the mission and she is hoping to treat as many people as possible this time.
