Chinese manufacturers are increasing production of dental scanners in order to meet demand, as people become increasingly conscious of their oral health.

Chinese people have become more aware of the importance of their oral health in recent years and dental practices and hospitals are eager to stock the latest scanning equipment.

At the China Dental Exhibition and Scientific Conference in Beijing, which took place between Saturday and Tuesday, there was massive interest in the latest CT (computerised tomography) dental scanning units, which create incredibly detailed 3D images of the mouth almost instantaneously and manufacturers took a huge number of orders.

Su Genchang, from the sales department of German manufacturing company, Kavo Dental GmbH, said that the Chinese market has grown considerably over the course of the last two years. In 2010, there were barely any orders, but last year, more than 100 scanning units were sold by the firm in China and sales figures this year are already promising.

According to Su, dental scanners are very rare in China and almost all practices and hospitals in Germany have dental CT units, but in the whole of China there are less than 200 scanners. He claimed that the next decade will see huge growth in the market and expects most clinics to have a dental CT scanner by the end of the next decade, especially as the popularity of dental implants increases.
