Childsmile Promotion Week A Great Success In Stornoway

Sample News Big

Childsmile Promotion Week was a great success in the Western Isles; the campaign, which was designed to raise awareness of the Childsmile programme, took place last week.

Children all over the Western Isles were invited to take part in a range of activities and events as part of the campaign, which were designed to be fun as well as educational.

Childsmile is a national programme, which was introduced to close the gap between children from affluent areas and poorer areas and ensure that all children have access to NHS dental care. The scheme covers children from birth and involves help for parents as well as dental care for children.

One of the key messages of the campaign is to promote oral hygiene from a very early age. Parents are encouraged to start brushing their child’s teeth before the teeth even start to erupt and organise regular dental visits for their child from the age of 12 months. Dental care is free of charge for children and the aim of the campaign was to encourage parents to make use of the dental services available to them.
