A dental clinic, which provides dental care for foster children, is set to expand.

The Ingleburn dental clinic has been given a grant, which will enable it to expand its services. At the moment, the clinic opens out of hours to provide care for foster children. The grant will enable the clinic to open during the day, which will dramatically increase the number of patients able to benefit from the facility.

The dental clinic will receive $90,000 from the state in order to operate on a full-time basis. The clinic was set up on a part-time basis last year and progress was monitored by Community Services and the Sydney South West Area Health Services. The results of the trial period were very positive and it was agreed that the facility would receive a grant to enable it to operate during the day.

Last week, Community Services Minister Linda Burney and MP Andrew McDonald announced the expansion plans in parliament. Dr McDonald also works as a paediatrician and is delighted with the plans. He said that many foster children need extensive medical and dental treatment and the clinic is helping to provide foster children with the treatment they need.
