Children in New Zealand set to benefit from new mobile clinic

Sample News Big

Schoolchildren from Hornby will visit a mobile dental unit for routine check-ups, it has been announced.

Children will visit the clinic on Hei Hei Road for check-ups before they go to school; they will be referred to the Hornby Community Dental Clinic if they require further treatment.

The new clinic will focus on preventative dental care, which will help to protect children’s teeth from harmful bacteria and consequently reduce the likelihood of them needing complex dental treatment in the future. Investing in preventative measures will hopefully prove cost-effective, as the need for more expensive treatment further down the line will be reduced.

The new clinic is part of a wider initiative in Canterbury to raise standards of oral health and get children involved in looking after their teeth and gums. New clinics have also opened in Kaiapoi and Rangiora and the unit at Ashburton Hospital, which opened in May last year, is enjoying great success.
