Cheshire dentist jailed for sexual assault

A married dentist has been jailed after a judge found him guilty of sexual assault.

Roger Klein, a married father, was ordered to spend fifteen months in prison and sign the sex offender’s register for ten years by Judge Martin Rudland.

Klein was accused of sexual assault by a female patient, who claimed he had pinned her down and tried to touch her inappropriately. The woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, said Klein had forced himself on her, despite her persistent attempts to get him off her.

Klein denied the allegations, saying that the woman had created a vicious lie; he also claimed that she had flirted outrageously with him and encouraged the development of a sexual relationship by inviting him into her bedroom. Klein said the woman had inundated him with flirtatious phone calls, which he misinterpreted as a sign that she wanted to sleep with him.

Judge Martin Rudland stated that the phone calls received by Klein were clearly of a flirtatious nature but Mr Klein had taken them far too seriously and this had provoked his unacceptable behaviour. Judge Rudland condemned Mr Klein’s actions and ordered him to sign the sex offender’s register for ten years.

Roger Klein will now spend time in jail and his case will be referred to the General Dental Council; they will decide whether he is fit to practise and he could be struck off. Mr Klein was manager of the Regent Cosmetic Dental Practice in Knutsford, Cheshire.
