Chapel dental practice set to open next week

A controversial new dental practice is set to open its doors to patients next week.

Wantage House Dental Practice, which is located in a chapel, will open on Monday. Plans for the dental practice were initially snubbed by local people, who wanted to use the former St Mary’s School Chapel as a community arts centre; however, the plans were approved by the council and building started last year. Dental company, Rodericks, bought the chapel and since then the firm has invested half a million pounds in the chapel; the new surgery boasts contemporary glass cubicles, the latest technology and equipment and spacious, modern treatment rooms.

Representatives from the firm are eager to point out that the history and charm of the ancient chapel have been preserved and the renovation has been carried out tastefully and sympathetically. The surgery will open between 8am and 6pm in the week and on Saturday mornings.

News of the opening has provoked mixed feelings amongst local people; some are very upset that the chapel is being used as a dental practice, while others are pleased that a new NHS practice is opening in the area. The clinic will provide care for patients in Wantage and enable them to access dental treatment during the week and on Saturdays.
