Certain Type of Oral Bacteria Help Others to Spread Disease

Sample News Big

Recent research has focused on the relationship between gum disease and other serious illnesses and further study has now found how certain types of oral bacteria make a person more susceptible to other strands of bacterium.

The research team at Case Western Reserve School of Dental Medicine made the findings, after studying the Fusobacterium nucleatum, which is one of the most common bacteria to be found in a person’s mouth.

Fusobacterium nucleatum provides other bacteria, including Eserichia coli, the chance to enter the blood stream. This occurs after Fusobacterium nucleatum breaks into the sheath of endothelial cells in the mouth and opens a gateway into the rest of the body for it and other bacteria.

This type of oral bacteria has been held responsible of the premature death of babies, heart disease, Alzheimer’s and diabetes, so it is of the utmost importance to maintain a good oral health regime.
