Cash injection for NHS dental services in Shropshire

Shropshire County Primary Care Trust has announced that £400,000 has been made available to fund additional NHS dental places in the area.

The money will be used to pay for around 4,700 dental check-ups and will improve access to local NHS dental services in the region. Liz Welsh, senior commissioning manager from the trust said that the cash boost would help to provide dental services for local people. Ms Welsh claimed that the trust was aware that many people would like the opportunity to see a local dentist and the funding will pay for people to register with a dentist and have a routine check-up.

The places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis and the trust will do everything possible to place patients as near to their home as possible. Patients who would like to register with a local NHS dentist are advised to contact Shropshire County Primary Care Trust.

Investment in Shropshire’s dental services is beginning to pay off and access to NHS services is now better than most other areas in the West Midlands. Over the course of the last twelve months, NHS patient numbers have increased by more than 11,000.
