Cardiff Dentist appointed Wale’s Chief Dental Officer

A dentist from Cardiff has been appointed as Wales’s new Chief Dental Officer.

David Thomas has been given the role on a permanent basis, after filling in for previous incumbent Dr Paul Langmaid after his retirement. Mr Thomas has also worked as deputy chief dental officer for the Welsh government.

Mr Thomas will be responsible for advising government ministers on dental practice and policy and creating and planning initiatives to promote good oral health.

Wales’ chief medical officer, Dr Tony Jewell, welcomed the news, thanking MR Thomas for his work as acting chief dental officer. Dr Jewell said that Mr Thomas brings a wealth of experience and expertise in community dentistry and public health and has an impressive academic record.

Mr Thomas said he was delighted with his new role and was looking forward to working alongside government ministers to promote oral health and improve standards of oral health across Wales.
