Two dental nurses from Cambodia have joined the team at the Western Isles Dental Centre to gain valuable work experience.

Srey Ny and Ratana participated in a course in Phnom Penh run by local dentist, Kenneth MacDonald and dental nurse, Carolyn MacDonald. The two nurses were amongst a large number of people who wanted to visit Stornoway to undertake a work experience placement and they had to sit examinations and tests to prove that they ere the best candidates for the training placement.

Mr MacDonald said that the two nurses are observing procedures and following the dental nurses at the practice. They have settled in well and are thoroughly enjoying the experience; they are keeping a diary of everything they learn, which they will take back to Cambodia when the placement comes to an end.

Mr MacDonald originally visited Phnom Penh to work at a clinic for orphans, which was sponsored by the Rotary Club but he now has a mentoring and teaching role and is in constant contact with members of staff thanks to Skype.
