Californian town awaits decision on water fluoridation system
Residents in the Californian town of Watsonville are awaiting a decision, which could affect their oral health in the future.
Today the City Council will decide whether or not to accept a grant, which will enable residents to benefit from fluoridated water supplies. The 1.6 million dollar grant would be used to build a new system, which would add fluoride to the water supply.
The crunch meeting comes just two days before the council is due to be fined $200 for not providing residents with fluoridated water. The council has been divided over the issue of fluoride for a decade and some councillors have fought tooth and nail to prevent the system from being built. Some people are fighting against the case because they do not believe that fluoride is safe; however, numerous studies across the globe have revealed that people who live in areas with fluoridated water supplies tend to have much higher standards of oral health than those who live in areas without fluoride.
Manuel Bersamin, from the council, is campaigning in favour of the new fluoride system; he believes adding fluoride to the water will help to protect children’s oral health in the future and will be particularly beneficial for the city’s poorest children, many of whom suffer from untreated decay.
The City Council is due to meet for a session which will focus solely on the issue of the fluoride system; it remains to be seen how the council will deal with the issue of an impending $200 per day fine.

Please look at the 2007 study by Burt in Detroit. Almost 100% of kids by age 5 had cavities and age 14 83% still had untreated caries. Nutrition was the real issue as f water,soda and chips were the foods of choice. Missing were vegetables and fruits and dental care. Also nap sugar bottles or sugar sippy cups destroy so many young kids teeth to black nubs on primary baby teeth. This is more the norm in the poor big inner cities most fluoridated for over 50 years. We know many are fluoride toxic as dental fluorosis is skyrocketing especially in poor blacks. Hispanics often as bad. Burt 2009 just showed also blacks have significantly more fluoride intakes. Yoder K.M. showed dentists when tested got the fluoride science wrong usually and did not know fluoride content of products or foods. Pub med.com has the study from Indiana and Illinois to verify the test results. As low as 15% got the facts correct. Any benefit seems to be topical post eruptive which is the opposite of fluoridation ingested delivery. We have a problem that foods and beverages often have higher levels then the water sometimes over 100ppm. Especially with fluoride fumigation of stored foods and processing plants allowed to leave residue up to 900ppm in dried eggs. That was by far the highest with grains ranging from 70-139ppm. Nuts in the 25-30ppm range still legal but not mentioned to customers for any of the 200 fumigated foods. It is rare dentist or doctors are aware of this very new fluoride pesticide use. Profume is from Dow and is called vikane for tenting homes for termites. Effects on the food supply were ignored so methyl bromide could be ended as the top fumigant. Dow never mentioned Profume is just as bad a green house gas. The EPA was punked by Dow and now the public eats the evidence of fluoride toxic food.
