A Burton dentist has retired after spending more than three decades at the same dental practice.

David May has spent more than thirty years working at Hughes and Owen dental practice, Swadlincote and attended the practice as a patient when he was just a young boy. He decided to retire and take time to enjoy some well-earned rest after 33 years at the practice; as he approaches his 70th birthday, he looks back on an amazing career at the practice.

Mr May said that he had been lucky to build strong relationships with patients and often treated several generations of the same family. The practice has changed over the years, but the ethos has always been the same and he is very proud to have been a part of the successes the team has achieved over the years.

He was the first patient in the town to have a brace and he became interested in dentistry as a result of attending dental appointments during his treatment. he started helping out on Saturdays and later trained as a dentist after starting his working life as a cattle auctioneer.

Mr May was given a celebratory send-off by all the dental team and thanked everyone, colleagues and patients, for all their support over the years. He is now looking forward to spending time with his children and grandchildren and has ambitions to construct a model railway.
