A dentist from Brooklands, near Sale, is training hard ahead of a punishing 24-hour charity run. Chris Waith from Maple Road Dental Practice is preparing to take on the infamous Thunder Run in a bid to raise money for the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.

Chris’s son Dexter was born with three holes in his heart and has received care at the hospital over a prolonged period of time. 15 month old Dexter requires regular check-ups at the hospital and may need surgical treatment in the future. Over the last year or so, Chris and his partner Michelle have been amazed by the standard of care Dexter has received and the warmth and kindness of the nurses and doctors who have cared for him.

Chris is a keen runner and a member of Chorlton Runners. He has already completed the Manchester Marathon and also successfully battled through the ultra-marathon from Brecon to Cardiff. Now, the 36 year old implantologist is preparing to take on the toughest relay race out there – the Thunder Run. He will be joined by a friend from the running club, Lorraine Pang. The pair are hoping to complete over 100 miles between them.

The race starts from Catton Park in Derbyshire and will take place on Saturday the 25th July.
