There is an increasingly widening dental gap occurring in Britain, according to the Daily Telegraph.

The newspaper claims that on the one hand, there are people who cannot afford good teeth due to the rising cost of dental treatment nd on the other there are those who are embracing the cosmetic dentistry trend.

Following Gordon Brown’s well-publicised teeth whitening treatment, the publication claims much of the nation has followed suit.

"Britain used to be known for its terrible incisors," it states. "In Mexico, bad teeth are called ‘dientes ingles’. But gradually we have caught up with America."

It reports that Brits spend £360 million on cosmetic dentistry every year.

"No presenter would be allowed on television without a polished grin," claims the newspaper.

The British Dental Health Foundation reported that oral health habits were eight times as bad in 2007 as they were the previous year, with some people resortingto flossing their teeth with fish bones and toenails.ADNFCR-1374-ID-18432218-ADNFCR
