A man from Brighouse needed more than £2,000 worth of dental treatment after being attacked while waiting for a taxi.

The man was in the queue at a taxi rank in the early hours of the morning when Jordan Parnell punched him three times and hit his girlfriend. The force of the punches sent the man tumbling to the floor and he hit his head on a concrete step. His girlfriend was also attacked when she intervened to try to stop the fight.

Mr Parnell, 33, from Bailiff Bridge, pleaded guilty to charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and assault by beating. The incident took place on July 31st.
Miss Ella Embleton, prosecuting, said that the attack happened shortly before 2am when the two men were waiting for a taxi. Mr Parnell made comments before putting his arm around the victim and punching him twice in the face. He then hit the man’s girlfriend in the side of her jaw and punched the man a third time, which knocked him to the floor unconscious.

The man suffered extensive facial injuries, including two severely damaged front teeth and further dental issues, which resulted in him needing £2,220 worth of treatment. He was also shaken by the incident and lost his confidence, causing him to take time off work. He had to borrow money to pay for the treatment.

Mr Parnell, who had been drinking and admitted his mistakes to police officers, was sentenced to 10 months in prison, which was suspended for 12 months. He will also complete 15 rehabilitation days and 100 hours of unpaid work and he will have a curfew on Saturday nights for 3 months. He has also been ordered to pay £2,200 in compensation to the victim.
