Bradford dentists report surge in problems after lockdown

Dentists in Bradford have reported a surge in dental problems after the lockdown.

A report compiled by the owners of Dentistry@BD4, Alan and Janet McGlaughlin, indicated a worrying increase in the demand for treatment due to the pandemic. The report, which has been submitted to Bradford Council, shows that there are significant backlogs in the area and that more patients are presenting with complex problems.

The owners of Dentistry@BD4 conducted research to determine the potential impact of extending opening hours. The duo found that waiting times have increased, patients are finding it increasingly difficult to get appointments due to a lack of capacity and clinics that have survived the pandemic are struggling to wade through backlogs.

There has also been a ‘surge’ in the number of people requiring treatment for complex issues, which they have been unable to seek help for previously.

Janet and Alan McGlaughlin believe that extending opening hours will help the local community by enabling more patients to see a dentist.

By opening for longer, the team would be able to book more appointments, providing them with opportunities to clear backlogs faster, ensure patients with existing issues get the care and attention they need and resume routine work sooner.
