Bradford dentist gets the green light to open new practice in former cemetery lodge

A Bradford dentist who submitted plans to open a brand new dental practice in a former cemetery lodge has plenty to smile about after the planning proposals were given the green light.

Mohammed Amar submitted an application to convert the former lodge in Nab Wood Cemetery into a new surgery. The building, which has been vacant for a long time, will be turned into a dental practice and office space.

Plans to open the practice have been granted a ‘certificate of lawfulness’ by planning officers at the local council. The lodge had previously been used as an office by the council and it was suggested that a dental surgery fell into the same planning category, meaning that a full application was not required under new proposals introduced by the government in 2020.

The new surgery will open from 7.30am until 7pm.

There were no public objections to the plans submitted by Mohammed Amar.

Dental access is a major issue in Bradford and the surrounding area and it is hoped that opening a new practice, especially one that offers extended opening hours, will improve patient services and ease pressure on existing dental providers in the city.
