Bradford Dental Team Supports Mouth Cancer Action Month by Encouraging Locals to Get Checked Out

A Bradford dental team is promoting Mouth Cancer Action Month by encouraging local people to book a dental appointment or screening test this November.

The team from Changing Faces Dentistry & Facial Rejuvenation in Greengates encourages both patients and those not registered with the practice to get checked out in support of the national campaign that runs throughout November.

Clinical dental technician Brendan Hudson said it is an honour to support Mouth Cancer Action Month and the team is working hard to raise awareness of mouth cancer. They also encourage patients to keep up to date with routine dental checks and take advantage of mouth cancer screening tests.

As well as taking time to talk to patients about oral cancer, the team has also been fundraising for mouth cancer charities. They recently held a bake sale which made more than £100.

Mouth cancer is a relatively uncommon form of cancer but the number of cases has increased by well over a third in the last 10 years alone, so dentists are eager for people to be aware of the causes and symptoms so any abnormalities can be identified and addressed as easy as possible. The main risk factors include smoking, alcohol consumption and HPV infection. Symptoms to look out for include red or white patches in the mouth, abnormal lumps and swelling and slow-healing ulcers.
