The team at Bolton Orthodontic Practice has plenty to smile about after being crowned the winners of a competition run by the Oral Health Improvement Team at Bolton NHS Foundation Trust. The competition, which challenged local practices to put together displays to promote oral health awareness, was run to celebrate National Smile Month.

Senior oral health improvement officer, Sue Diggle, said that it had been very tough to judge the competition, as many practices and local businesses entered, and the teams had obviously gone to a lot of trouble. The panel of judges was looking at the efficacy of the boards in promoting key messages set out by the Oral Health Foundation for this year’s campaign. After much deliberation, the team at Bolton Orthodontic Practice was named the winner and the runner-up was Mr Slattery’s in Little Lever.

National Smile Month is an annual oral health campaign, which is run by the charity, the Oral Health Foundation. Every year, practices across the country take part in events to raise awareness of oral health issues and encourage people to take good care of their teeth and gums.

Dental practices were not the only participants in the competition, and judges visited displays at care homes, schools and community centres.
