Bolton Dentists Join Forces To Campaign For Equal Funding

A group of dentists from Bolton has joined forces to campaign for equality in the region; the dentists claim that there is imbalance in the health service, which could be addressed by better funding.

The Local Dental Committee has convened to discuss funding and campaign for better funding for Bolton, as members fear that the area is being marginalised, with more money being directed towards other parts of Greater Manchester.

Peter Moss, chairman of the Local Dental Committee, said that there have always been health inequalities in the region, but Bolton has been particularly badly affected and dentists are eager to address these issues with the help of increased funding.

There have been major changes in the structure of local NHS management recently, with the ending of Primary Care Trusts and the dentists feel that now is the perfect opportunity to make changes that will improve standards of oral health in Bolton. Funding for dental care is now managed by the Greater Manchester Area Team, which means that there is a central pot of money for the practices in the region.

Dentists in Bolton have decided to work together with Bolton Clinical Commissioning Group, the trust’s team that promotes oral health and the council to campaign for more funding for Bolton from the Greater Manchester Area Team; they are hoping that by joining together, there is a better chance of their wishes being granted.

Last Tuesday, around 70 dentists gathered at the Royal Bolton Hospital to take part in a forum, which was described by a member of the oral health promotion team as “very successful.”
