Blackburn dentists offer virtual help sessions for parents

Dentists in Blackburn are offering parents virtual help sessions to reduce the risk of dental issues during lockdown.

The team at AP Smilecare is running free online consultations to provide information and advice for parents to help them keep their child’s smile in check. Dr Josephine Prasad, principal dentist, explained that the lockdown is tough for dentists and patients, with many dental professionals struggling with a limited range of services available to patients, and parents coping with home-schooling children. The demands of home-schooling and spending more time at home have contributed to an increase in snacking among families with children, and dental practices are not able to offer routine treatments like check-ups and preventative sealants and fluoride varnish.

The free virtual sessions are designed to keep in touch with local patients and to offer support and tips for parents who may be finding it difficult to motivate their children to brush their teeth or to avoid snacking during the day.

Parents can book a free appointment by calling the practice on 01254 297000 or by emailing [email protected].

Blackburn with Darwen currently holds the unenviable title of the region with the worst rates of childhood decay, so the AP Smilecare team is eager to reach out and do as much as possible to help local families at what is a difficult time.
