A Blackburn dental practice is supporting a local food bank in the run-up to Christmas.

The team at Mill Hill Dental Practice has been collecting donations from patients and local people to help those in need at Christmas. Naomi Threlfall, a dental nurse at the practice, said that the team was inspired to help after one of their patients mentioned that they had been helping out at the Blackburn Foodbank, which is located on Brunswick Street. The patient said that as well as food, there is often a shortage of toiletries, such as toothpaste, and the team decided to start helping out and gathering items to build emergency relief parcels.

Naomi said that the practice always had additional supplies and she collected around 30 tubes of toothpaste and took them down to the centre. The practice has now decided to give a regular donation to the food bank and will be supporting the cause after Christmas.

The food bank has also received a donation from Star Tissue UK in the form of bulk parcels of toilet rolls. Director, Khalid Saifullah, said that the firm had supported the food bank in the past and will continue to do so in the future, donating a total of 5,000 rolls of toilet tissue over the next 12 months.

Ros Duerden, who manages the Blackburn Foodbank, thanked the firms for their support.
