The MP for Beverley and Holderness has called for improved access to NHS dental care amid concerns that a growing number of residents are having to leave town to see a dentist.

Graham Stuart has urged NHS England to take action to enable more people to see a local NHS dentist after it was revealed that more and more patients are travelling out of town to get an appointment.

Mr Stuart said that he had researched services in the local area and found that no practices in Beverley are currently accepting new NHS patients. He also claimed that the situation is not much better in other parts of his constituency. Patients have complained about having to travel to Hull or Cottingham to see an NHS dentist.

Mr Stuart has written to the director of commissioning operations for NHS England in Yorkshire and the Humber, Moira Dumma, asking her to act swiftly to improve the situation. Many people find it difficult to get around and a lack of services on the doorstep is making it difficult for patients to see a dentist on a regular basis.

Mr Stuart has also expressed concerns at waiting times at practices in the Yorkshire town, and he hopes that writing to the trust will prompt them to take action and improve access to NHS treatment.
