BDTA Warn Against Unsafe Dental Equipment Purchases

Sample News Big

The British Dental Trade Association have hit out strongly at the sale and use of any dental devices that are substandard or fake.

This warning is not only for professionals looking to buy cheap equipment; it is also for patients at home or ‘DIY dentists’. There are many products available promoting self treatment, one example being whitening strips and the BDTA has warned people to buy wisely.

President of the BDTA Terry Porter has publicised this message after a BBC program called ‘Fake Britain’ highlighted the issue. The show recorded counterfeit dental equipment being sold at lower than RRP rates.

Other regulatory bodies have supported this message. The General Dental Council have also spoken out to registered members outlining the cause of the problem.

In a recent publication they noted that because of high demand and globalisation, the source of equipment is not always clear. They went on to state that it was the purchasing party who were responsible for making sure that the products are safe.

The crux of their message was that equipment should be bought only from trusted, known suppliers.
