The British Dental Trade Association set up an exhibit to support the Department of Health’s Change 4 Life campaign at Showcase 2010.

The Change 4 Life campaign was launched to try and encourage members of the public to adapt a healthy lifestyle and combine healthy eating with exercise; the programme is trying to raise awareness of the health benefits associated with healthy eating and regular exercise so that people take steps towards a healthier lifestyle.

In September the BDTA launched its ‘kick out the sweets, bring on the treats’ campaign, which was designed to promote good oral health and inform people about the importance of good oral health for good general health. Both campaigns encourage healthy eating, which can make a huge difference to oral health, as well as contributing to good general health. The BDTA’s ‘kick out the sweets, bring on the treats’ campaign is also centred on encouraging adults and children to attend regular dental check-ups.

The stand at Showcase 2010 promoted both campaigns and encouraged dentists and other dental professionals to get on board and sign up to raise awareness of the campaigns on a local scale. Tony Reed, executive director of the BDTA, said the stand was a great success and a large number of dentists pledged their support to both campaigns. Around 400 visitors took home Change 4 Life packs, which will help to get local communities involved in healthy living.
