BDA annoyed by Scottish plans for continuous registration

The British Dental Association has said that it is disappointed that the Scottish government is going ahead with plans for continuous registration despite its objections.

Reports have suggested that the association (BDA) raised a number of counter-arguments against the government’s scheme to introduce the continuous registration plans from 1 April 2010 but these were ignored.

BDA’s Scottish Dental Practice Committee chair Dr Robert Kinloch said that continuous registration sent out the wrong message to patients about visiting the dentist regularly and argued that they encourage people to neglect their own oral health.

He also claimed that the plans undermine current preventive ideas and said that Scotland already suffered from serious dental access and oral cancer problems.

Dr Robert Kinloch then called on the Scottish government to work hard to promote regular visits to the dentist if it was going to go ahead with these plans.
