A dentist from Barry has raised more than £4,000 for charity as he prepares to climb Mount Everest this winter.

Ken Chow, an experienced climber who has already conquered Ben Nevis and Mount Kilimanjaro, will set off on the expedition on the 5th November. He has already raised £4,397, which will be donated to Bridge2Aid.

Mr Chow was inspired to tackle the world’s highest mountain after he reached the summit of Mt Kilimanjaro two years ago. He has been training at the gym and hiking regularly, and said that he feels well prepared.

Bridge2Aid is a charity that helps to provide dental supplies and valuable training in Tanzania. Volunteers from all over the country fly out and spend time in Africa, teaching practitioners out there and enabling them to gain skills that will benefit thousands of dental patients in Tanzania in years to come. The number of qualified dentists is very low and access to even the most basic care is poor.

Ken will be part of a team of around 25 hikers and he is aiming to reach Everest Base Camp, which stands at around 6,000 metres above sea level. Although he is nervous and slightly apprehensive about the gruelling challenge, Ken also said that he is incredibly excited about the weeks to ahead.
