Adults and children are invited to join the World Smile Day celebrations in Barnsley next month.

The oral health improvement team will be working with South West Yorkshire partnership NHS Foundation Trust to host the annual World Smile Day event on October 5th; the team will be handing out toothbrush and toothpaste packs to encourage people to clean their teeth and popular children’s character, Peppa Pig, will be joining in the fun.

During the day, the oral health team will be hosting activities and games for children, giving out free gifts and taking time to talk to children and parents about oral health and oral hygiene.

Peppa Pig will be joining the team at Millfield Children’s Centre in Grimethorpe from 9.15-9.45am, Dearne Community Children’s Centre from 11.15-11.45am and Kings Oak Children’s Centre in Wombwell from 12.30-1pm.

The oral health improvement team is hoping that the fun day will inspire people to take better care of their teeth and gums and encourage children to brush their teeth twice a day. Barnsley has poor standards of oral health, with recent figures confirming that the rate of decay among five year olds is much higher than the national average; in Barnsley, 58 per cent of five year old children have decay, compared to the national average of 40 per cent.
