A dental team from Aylesbury is donning blue smiles and offering free dental screening as part of Mouth Cancer Action Month. The national campaign, which launched on the 1st of November, is designed to encourage people to get checked out and learn about mouth cancer.

Denta-Care will be offering free oral cancer checks between the 16th and 20th of November and staff members will be wearing blue lips in support of the campaign, which is run by the British Dental Health Foundation in conjunction with the Mouth Cancer Foundation and Denplan.

Dinesh Ramdoo from Denta-Care said it’s important to get behind the campaign to educate more people about oral cancer and promote screening checks. These are simple and painless but could make the difference between life and death. Often, the symptoms of oral cancer can be detected during routine dental checks and this is why it’s so important to keep up to date with check-ups.

Dr Nigel Carter OBE, chief executive of the British Dental Health Foundation, said many people are still unaware of the causes and symptoms of oral cancer, despite the fact that it has become a lot more common in the last 5-10 years. In the past, mouth cancer was mainly diagnosed in men aged over 40. However, more cases involving younger people and women are being diagnosed, so screening is recommended for all.
