Representatives from Aneurin Bevan University Health Board have revealed plans to create 2,000 extra NHS dental places thanks to a £300,000 funding injection from the government.

The funding is part of a £1.3 million pot for dental services in Wales, which will create around 10,000 new NHS dental places.

The cash injection is expected to benefit those in poorly served areas of the region covered by the board and funding will also be used to improve access to specialist children’s services.

Vaughan Gething, health minister, stated that dental health is a priority for the Welsh Government and suggested that more than £1.3 million will be invested in dental services across the country in the coming months.

A spokesperson from Aneurin Bevan University Health Board said that the funding boost had been welcomed by the board and confirmed that the money will be used to create an additional 2,000 dental places in the area. New places are expected to be made available in the next six months.
